Rep. Correa, Co-Chair of the Congressional Family Business Caucus, Speaks on Wealth Tax, Healthcare, and other Key issues with Family Business Constituents in His California District
— In a recent gathering with family-owned business leaders, Rep. Lou Correa (D-CA) discussed key policies and provided insights into potential legislation proposed on Capitol Hill this fall, and into 2027.
Rep. Correa, Co-Chair of the Congressional Family Business Caucus, spoke with several family members of family-owned businesses in his district and appraised them of policies to watch, including those on wealth taxes, healthcare, and social security. Rep. Correa is Caucus Co-Chair along with Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY).
The event in Anaheim Hills kicked off with remarks from Pat Soldano, President, Family Enterprise USA Action (FEUSA Action), the event organizer.
She introduced Rep. Correa and Tim Schultz, the new Chief Executive Officer of Family Enterprise USA Action and its sister organization, Family Enterprise USA, where Soldano is also President.
Among the family-owned business attendees were Hydraflow’s former Chief Executive Officer, Cindy Ayloush, WARCO’s (Western American Rubber Co.) Chief Executive Officer Tim Hemstreet, and family business owners P.J. and Raquel Brunner of Currency Counting Consultants.
Hydraflow, Fullerton, Calif, with 250 employees, designs and manufactures low pressure fluid transfer solutions that reduce customer’s installation time, waste, weight, and costs, while WARCO, based in Orange, Calif., with its 200 employees, is a domestic rubber manufacturer specializing in sheet rubber, extruded & spliced rubber, and molded rubber products. Currency Counters, Anaheim Hills, Calif., was founded in 1979, provides customers with high quality currency processing equipment.
“Family businesses are the engine that keeps this country moving forward,” Rep. Correa told the attendees at the gathering here. “We must understand how important family businesses are to growing the economy, creating jobs, being responsible to their employees, and to their communities,” he said.
Rep. Correa discussed a variety of legislative topics, including potential progress in healthcare legislation, the need to address the long-term viability of Social Security, and the importance of hard-working family businesses in their communities.
Since 2017, Rep. Correa has represented California’s 46th congressional district, serving Orange County’s majority Hispanic area, including the cities of Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Orange.
Prior to being a Member of Congress, Correa represented the 34th district in the California State Senate from 2006 to 2014. Before his career in politics, Correa was an investment banker, a real estate broker, and a college instructor.
On September 23, the bipartisan Congressional Family Business Caucus will hold its final meeting, with topic being “The Price of Prosperity: Family Business Strategies for Battling Wealth Taxes.”
The Caucus will take place on Capitol Hill and has the mission of focusing solely on the challenges family-owned businesses and the families that own them face day to day. The Caucus has 49 members, with good representation of both Republicans and Democrats.
“Having Congressman Correa meet directly with the families of family-owned businesses is how family-owned businesses and our lawmakers need to work together to help foster growth,” said Tim Schultz, Chief Executive Officer, Family Enterprise USA Action, which advocates for family-owned businesses, based in Washington, D.C. “When House Members like Rep. Correa meet one-on-one with family business leaders it educates our lawmakers on what the real-life challenges these businesses face day-to-day, and the needed policies to help our economy, employees, and their communities thrive.”
America’s family businesses are the largest private employers in the country, accounting for 83.3 million jobs in some 32 million family businesses across the country, according to research. These businesses contribute $7.7 trillion annually to U.S. gross domestic product.
