SHANGHAI, Oct. 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The 2026 Sustainability Global Leaders Conference is set to take place from October 20 to 22 in Huangpu district, Shanghai, bringing together international organizations, leading academics, business executives and other stakeholders to discuss pathways toward a more resilient and sustainable future.

Under the theme "Forging a Resilient Future: Global Governance • Innovation-Led Advancement • Industrial Renewal," the conference is expected to attract more than 300 speakers and guests from China and abroad, including representatives of international organizations, Nobel laureates, Turing Award laureates and senior executives from leading companies.

The event is hosted by the World Green Design Organization (WGDO) and SINA Group and organized by SINA Finance and the Beijing Representative Office of WGDO.

Global Cooperation and Public Engagement Take Center Stage

This year’s conference will place greater emphasis on international collaboration and public engagement. United Nations agencies and other specialized international organizations will participate in a range of sessions, creating opportunities for dialogue and cooperation across countries and sectors. The expanded international participation will facilitate the sharing of experience and resources and help translate global sustainability consensus into practical action.

The conference will also seek to bring sustainability discussions beyond professional circles and closer to everyday life. Held alongside the conference, the second Green Industry and Sustainable Consumption Expo will be open to the public and feature a range of activities, including a sustainable marketplace. Exhibitions and interactive experiences covering green lifestyles, cultural and creative products and the circular economy will allow visitors to explore how sustainability can be integrated into consumption and daily life.

Experts to Explore Emerging Global Challenges

The conference will address emerging issues including artificial intelligence and human development, climate change and regional responses, and the international expansion of Chinese companies, through keynote speeches, high-level dialogues and thematic discussions.

Leading scholars from different fields will contribute to the discussions. Andre Geim, 2010 Nobel Laureate in Physics, Thomas C. Südhof, M.D., 2013 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine and Joseph Sifakis, founder of Verimag and 2007 Turing Award laureate, will deliver keynote speeches. A featured dialogue on AI and the future of humanity will bring together Alan Macfarlane, professor emeritus of anthropology at the University of Cambridge, Fellow of the British Academy and Life Fellow of King’s College, Cambridge, and Xiang Biao, director and professor at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology. The two scholars will discuss the social and human implications of AI.

By connecting international dialogue with practical experiences, the 2026 Sustainability Global Leaders Conference aims to contribute to discussions on a more resilient and sustainable future, while providing an international platform for sharing China’s experience and perspectives on sustainable development.
