Supplier capability building and circular materials connect sustainability requirements with opportunities for collaboration

FOSHAN, China, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Guangdong Dongpeng Holdings Co., Ltd. (SZSE: 003012), a Chinese building materials company, presented an approach linking supplier capability building with circular material innovation at the 2026 United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit in New York. The company shared how manufacturers and buyers can help suppliers put sustainability requirements into practice and collaborate to turn industrial residues into building materials.

On Sept. 23, Ying He, vice chair and president of Dongpeng, joined representatives from Schneider Electric, Sacyr and other organizations for the SPARK session "Transforming Supply Chain Pressure Into Growth and Opportunity." She drew on Dongpeng’s experience as both a manufacturer and a buyer to discuss how procurement can support supplier improvement, innovation and resilience.

Held during the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly, the summit emphasized measurable business action and collaboration across value chains. Procurement was a key focus, with discussions examining how purchasing decisions and supplier relationships can strengthen resilience and competitiveness as companies navigate regulatory change and fragmented trade.

Helping suppliers put sustainability into practice

She outlined a "3E" approach: Educate, Engage and Empower. Educate translates sustainability targets into clear requirements. Engage brings procurement, research and development, manufacturing, suppliers and customers into two-way collaboration. Empower combines tools, training and commercial incentives to help partners improve. The approach maintains common expectations while recognizing that suppliers need implementation pathways suited to their capabilities and circumstances.

"Sustainability should become a capability that companies build together with their partners, translated into everyday actions that can be measured, verified and continuously improved," said Ying He.

Dongpeng has integrated environmental, social and governance considerations into supplier onboarding, evaluation and procurement decisions, and has provided dedicated training to more than 20 core suppliers. This work connects purchasing requirements with practical support for the companies expected to meet them.

Turning industrial residues into building materials

Dongpeng also shared its work with supply chain partners to develop non-fired eco-stone using discarded ceramics and mineral residues. By combining suppliers’ material knowledge with its manufacturing and design capabilities, the company is exploring applications in panels and urban furniture.

The work connects resource recovery with product development and potential demand from construction and urban projects. Alongside efforts to reduce energy use, emissions and waste in conventional ceramic production, Dongpeng is exploring further collaboration with cities, architects and industry partners to apply these materials in public spaces and urban renewal.

Contributing to the sustainable procurement dialogue

Dongpeng also attended the High-Level Forum on Sustainable Procurement at United Nations Headquarters on Sept. 21. At the forum, the UN Global Compact launched its Sustainable Procurement Implementation Framework to help organizations embed sustainability in procurement decisions, processes and supplier relationships.

For Dongpeng, the exchanges connected its manufacturing experience in China with the challenges facing buyers and suppliers in other markets. The company is seeking collaboration with international partners on supplier capability building and circular material applications, with approaches adapted to local resources, production conditions and market needs.
