Thailand has welcomed 9.47 million foreign tourists and generated 391 billion baht (US$11 billion) in revenue so far this year. The majority of visitors come from Asian nations like Malaysia and India. In 2022, tourist arrivals reached 11.15 million, a significant increase compared to previous years. However, this is still far below the 40 million international arrivals registered in 2019 before the pandemic. In 2021, the country only saw 428,000 visitors due to travel restrictions. The tourism sector contributes about 20% to Thailand’s GDP and employs 15% of its workforce, making its recovery crucial for the country’s economic and social development.
